Privacy Violation Detection in Instant Messaging Platforms

KSIS Lab is involved in a funded research project focused on automated privacy violation detection in instant messaging platforms. The project investigates methods for identifying when sensitive personal information is inappropriately shared or exposed through messaging services — a problem that current platform-level permission systems address only partially.
Dr. Jassim M. Aljuraidan serves as Principal Investigator on this project, with participation from other lab faculty. The research combines information-flow analysis, natural language processing for sensitivity classification, and formal security policy modelling to produce automated detection methods that can operate at the message and metadata level.
The project connects to the lab's broader research programme in privacy-preserving systems, mobile platform security, and access control — and addresses a practical need as messaging platforms increasingly support automated agents and third-party integrations with access to sensitive user communications.
