Chiplet-Knight: Secure Chiplet-Based Architecture Research
KSIS Lab research includes secure chiplet-based architectures and reduced trusted computing base designs.
Chiplet-Knight is an active KSIS Lab research project focused on security for chiplet-based computing architectures. Chiplet disaggregation — composing a processor from multiple heterogeneous dies — offers significant advantages in manufacturing yield, cost, and specialisation, but introduces new trust boundary challenges that do not arise in monolithic designs.
The Chiplet-Knight project addresses these challenges by investigating integrity verification mechanisms for die-to-die interconnects, strategies for reducing the trusted computing base in multi-chiplet systems, and the design of lightweight security support units suited to chiplet environments. The project is led by Dr. Abbas A. Fairouz, who brings expertise in secure computer architecture, GPU security, and hardware acceleration to this direction. The work is being pursued in collaboration with researchers at the University of Oxford, where Dr. Fairouz is an Academic Visitor (2024–2025).
